Broccoli Marathon (Calabrese) Seeds

Marathon Broccoli exhibits medium-sized, dense heads of turquoise 'beads', presenting a lush blue-green hue. The uniform and attractive heads are characteristic of its fine-grained texture.

Known for its excellent flavour, the Marathon broccoli is a nutritious addition to various dishes. It retains its texture and taste whether steamed, boiled, or roasted, and is suitable for freezing, ensuring a fresh vegetable supply throughout winter.

This variety boasts a notable yield, producing around 30 potential heads alongside additional sideshoots once the central head is harvested. It matures in about 13 weeks post-germination, offering a continuous harvest from summer through autumn.

Calabrese Marathon F1 demonstrates a vigorous growth habit, thriving well in both light and heavy soils, and is slow to bolt or run to seed, making it ideal for colder regions.

Marathon flourishes in full sun and adapts to a variety of soil types, including loamy, heavy, and light soils. It exhibits good cold tolerance, enabling later sowings and an extended harvest period.

For an optimum harvest, sowing is recommended in early spring for a summer crop or early summer for an autumn yield. Plant spacing of 30-45cm apart is advisable, along with the use of netting or bird scarers to protect the crop as it matures.
